The Menorcan pianist, composer and improviser blends avant-garde jazz, contemporary music and extended piano techniques with folk traditions, popular song and lyrical melodies, creating a musical language that is entirely his own.
Mezquida has recorded in excess of 40 albums, including ten with his own group. He has also accompanied jazz icons such as Lee Konitz and Dave Liebman. His album Letter To Milos is an ode to his child, and includes all the musical styles Mezquida is well versed in: from Latin to baroque, and from progressive pop music to traditional Spanish styles such as corrido maragato and sorteao.
A four-time Musician of the Year at the Catalan Jazz Awards, Mezquida has performed at leading venues and festivals across more than 35 countries, including Blue Note New York and Tokyo, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and Vienna Konzerthaus. As a solo performer, he brings together dazzling technique, spontaneity and imagination in music that is constantly evolving in the moment.
