Following the success of “Waves of Tradition” with a 4-star review by The Scotsman in Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2025, Wan Xing, Eleanor Dunsodon and Gregor Black brings the audience a new and vibrant intercultural programme. The expressive sound of the Chinese guzheng meets Scottish musical traditions with bodhrán, drum, and harp, taking inspiration from Chinese calligraphy to explore the resonances between Eastern and Western traditions.

Centered around the four classical elements of Earth, Water, Fire and Wind that shape the art form, the performance is visually elevated by Qiu Yangzi’s painting Soil Remembers, which utilises traditional photographic techniques to blur geographical and cultural boundaries. Sound Strokes invites the audience to experience the dynamism of Chinese calligraphy, brought to life through the shared lines, rhythm, and fluid balance of music and art.

Cultural exchange activities funded by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.
