Lainey Dempsey
Walthamstow Folk Club, E17 4SA , [Venue Details]Influenced and inspired by Scotland and Ireland’s wealth of historical and contemporary traditional song bearers, Lainey writes and sings about rebels, underdogs, the supernatural and the broken hearted.
Her unaccompanied voice creates an intimacy and a human connection that invites audiences to travel with her into the stories of the songs she sings.
Lainey’s first album ‘Letle Telt’ was self-released in May 2023. Many songs are historical, some mythical, almost all have a strong female voice either in the writing or the telling. Much of Letle Telt was recorded around a campfire in the Highlands of Scotland. Half the songs were found in antique song books and are rarely sung today if at all. The other half are new compositions and have been inspired by tales from Scottish history and lore.
