Cubitt cèilidh fundraiser
Cafè Oto, E8 3DL , [Venue Details]At the centre of the evening will be live cèilidh music and dancing, performed by a one-night-only band assembled by friends and members of Shovel Dance Collective, with the full musical line-up announced shortly.
Cubitt takes over Cafe OTO for a cèilidh, a social evening and cultural celebration common in Gaelic cultures, raising funds towards the costs of Cubitt’s recently announced move.
Founded by artists in 1991, Cubitt is one of London’s oldest artist-run cooperatives. For thirty-five years, it has supported artistic experimentation through its affordable studios, non-profit gallery and education programme, while creating opportunities for artists and curators at formative stages in their careers.
Cubitt’s work extends far beyond its building. Its longstanding community and education programmes bring artists together with young people, schools, older residents and local communities across Islington, creating space for learning, participation and exchange.
After twenty-five years at Angel Mews, Cubitt is working to secure a new permanent home from which it can continue supporting experimental artistic and curatorial practices in the heart of London.
This cèilidh is an opportunity to gather around Cubitt at a crucial moment, celebrate everything it has built and help carry it into its next chapter.
