Boulton & Gayer: Voice & Piano
The Piano Bar Soho, W1D 3BT , [Venue Details]Two instruments and a century of songs: Honey Boulton brings voice and guitar, Matyas Gayer brings the piano, and the hidden jazz den inside Jack Solomons gets the duo treatment.
Honey Boulton is the Wellington born guitarist, banjo player and singer who writes 1920s hot jazz like he was there, four albums deep and a regular in this room. Matyas Gayer is the Hungarian pianist Jazzwise picked out for its Taking Off column: Graz and Vienna trained, twice a Montreux piano competition finalist, and leader of a trio whose album Westbourne Park was cut with Dave Green and Steve Brown. Ubuntu Music calls him one of a handful of young pianists forging his own distinctive style. Together they meet in the middle of the songbook.
