Greg Surmacz
Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, W1D 4HT , [Venue Details]Greg Surmacz’s music is a thrilling blend of jazz, post-rock and electronic music, built from layers of woodwind, analogue synth melodies, pulsating sub-bass and intricate rhythmic interplay.
What began as a solo production project has grown into a full live band, bringing together some of the UK’s finest musicians and giving the music a new energy on stage.
Surmacz’s early releases gained support from Gilles Peterson, Jamie Cullum, Tom Ravenscroft, Jamz Supernova and Bandcamp Weekly, while performances at We Out Here Festival and alongside artists including James Holden, Colin Stetson and Sarathy Korwar have established him within the UK’s contemporary jazz and electronic scene. His band features musicians who have performed with The Cinematic Orchestra, Nightmares On Wax, Gotts Street Park, Nubiyan Twist and more.
His fifth album, Building Beyond The Sky, fully harnesses the power of the ensemble, combining a full horn section with IDM, footwork and ambient textures. The follow-up EP, Voices Through The Wall, sees Greg collaborating with vocalists for the first time, including Ruby Wood of Submotion Orchestra, Daudi Matsiko and LA rapper Open Mike Eagle. His music has received regular airplay on BBC 6 Music, Radio 2, NTS, Worldwide FM, Jazz FM and beyond.
