Ego Ella May
Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, W1D 4HT , [Venue Details]Few artists have bridged the worlds of UK jazz and soul as naturally as Ego Ella May.
The British-Nigerian singer-songwriter has spent the past decade building a catalogue where contemporary jazz, neo-soul and R&B meet deeply personal songwriting, creating music that feels both intimate and expansive.
Ego’s songwriting is shaped by literature, introspection and the artists she admires, from Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone and Solange to writers including Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Patti Smith and Joan Didion. Her songs explore self-reflection, healing, identity, social consciousness and love with an intimacy that has connected her equally with jazz and contemporary R&B audiences. Her critically acclaimed debut album, Honey For Wounds, won Best Jazz Act at the MOBO Awards and Best Vocalist at the Jazz FM Awards, while collaborations with Ari Lennox, Theo Croker and Kojey Radical, alongside her FIELDNOTES EP trilogy, have seen her continue to expand her sound.
Now comes Good Intentions, Ego’s second album and her most ambitious work to date. Warm jazz textures, alt-soul, broken beat rhythms and intricate vocal arrangements meet sharp social commentary across a record produced with long-time collaborators including Alfa Mist and Beat Butcha.
