London-based Anmol Mohara is dedicated to bringing traditional Nepali music into a contemporary, global context. Drawing inspiration from visionary artists like Trilok Gurtu, Oumou Sangaré, Nitin Sawhney and Karim Ziad, Mohara’s music is deeply rooted to his homeland, fused with the improvisational spirit of jazz and his global musical influences.
Urvashi - Unabashed, unrelenting and refusing categorisation, an Urvashi performance feels like experiencing a spiritual invocation. Rooted in their diasporic experiences in the UK, Urvashi draws on the devotional traditions of Indian Qawwali and Arabic Tarab, and channels these practices through experimental jazz, drum and bass, UK rave music and hard rock.
Shri Sriram is an award-winning bassist, composer, producer and arranger whose dynamic quest for new and collaborative ways of making music has taken him all over the world. Accompanied by the 30-piece EFG London Jazz Festival Community Jazz Orchestra that has come together especially for this performance, Shri Sriram premieres new arrangements of his original music taking influence from Indian classical genres, jazz, and drum and bass.
