Plínio Fernandes
Temple Church, EC4Y 7BB , [Venue Details]Born and raised in São Paulo, Plínio Fernandes fuses the tradition of classical guitar with Brazilian folk music. For our first concert in Inner Temple's Lecture Theatre, the Decca Gold recording artist gives a live performance of his acclaimed 'Bacheando' album.
Bacheando unites Fernandes' love for the music of JS Bach with the sounds of his own country, via Heitor Villa-Lobos, Paulinho Nogueira, Mário Albanese and Sérgio Assad. Pairing Bach's Prelude, Fugue and Allegro in E-Flat Major BWV 998 with Assad's dance-infused response to that work, the programme also includes the much-loved Adagio from Bach's Concerto in D Minor BWV 974 (originally written for oboe by Baroque composer Benedetto Marcello).
- Nogueira: Bachianinha No.1
- Nogueira/Gonzaga: Bachianinha No.2/Araponga
- Bach: Prelude Fugue & Allegro in Eb
- Assad: Preludio Fuga e Vivace
- Albanese: Jequibach
- Bach: Adagio from Concerto in D Minor
- Villa-Lobos: Introdução from Bachianas Brasileiras No.4
"The quiet, contemplative powers of a promising young artist ... vibrant performances of works close to Fernandes’ heart."
