Assembled from the most talented students at Howard University, the band struck gold with their eponymous debut and classics like Do It Fluid, Walking in Rhythm, Happy Music and the iconic Rock Creek Park. Their Grammy-nominated sound has influenced generations, from 1980s Brit-funk to hip hop icons like Tupac, De La Soul, MF Doom, and Nas, who have all sampled their music extensively.

After reforming in 1999 under original drummer and vocalist Keith Killgo, The Blackbyrds continue to record, tour and perform worldwide. The current line-up includes original members Keith Killgo and Joe Hall alongside younger musicians, continuing the mission that began with Donald Byrd over 40 years ago.

Celebrating 50 years and counting of Rock Creek Park, The Blackbyrds remain a vital force in jazz, funk, and R&B, carrying forward the legacy of one of the most influential bands of the 1970s.
