Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, W1D 4HT , [Venue Details]Brazilian electric jazz trio Caixa Cubo follow in the footsteps of heroes Azymuth, Cesar Mariano and Marcos Resende, working with the tried and tested trifecta of synthesizers, bass and drums, while carving out their own distinctive take on golden-era Brazilian jazz-funk and samba-jazz.
Encapsulating the vitality and experimentalism synonymous with São Paulo’s musical heritage, Caixa Cubo playfully straddle the elegant and the surreal, combining masterful songwriting with the consummate musicianship of long-time friends and bandmates Henrique Gomide (keyboards), Noa Stroeter (bass) and João Fideles (drums).
Together for over 14 years, the trio’s music is rooted in deep musical friendship and a shared sense of play, where stories, humour and improvisation sit alongside tight rhythmic interplay and sophisticated arrangement. Their sound draws on Brazilian musical traditions while expanding them into jazz, funk and contemporary groove-led directions.
Recent releases include Angela (2020), hailed by BBC Radio 6 Music's Gilles Peterson and Bandcamp, and Agora (2023), leading to international tours and appearances at the likes of Jazz à Vienne, Jazzahead!, Blue Note São Paulo and Jazzkeller Frankfurt.
