With an 11-piece band bringing together some of London’s finest musicians, this is a celebration of the sounds that make the city what it is.
Described by Songlines as “probably the world’s best Afrobeat-Cuban-Bangladeshi group”, Lokkhi Terra have spent more than two decades connecting musical traditions from across the globe. Their music draws on the Cuban heritage of several of their musicians alongside the Bengali roots of bandleader Kishon Khan.
Dele Sosimi brings a direct connection to the roots of Afrobeat, having played keyboards with Fela Kuti’s Egypt 80 before becoming one of the genre’s leading ambassadors in the UK. His collaboration with Lokkhi Terra began with their acclaimed Cubafrobeat project, bringing his Lagos roots into dialogue with the band’s Cuban sound.
Now they return to Ronnie Scott’s for an evening of deep grooves, heavyweight percussion and the kind of musical exchange that could only happen in London.
